The all-volunteer organizers of the fourth annual Oysters & Ale fund-raiser

will decide on June 7th which Humboldt County non-profit will be the beneficiary of the

2009 event. Each year, Oysters & Ale benefits a different Humboldt County organization.

Oysters & Ale was first organized in 2006 by Debi Farber Bush, Kitty Yancheff and

Barbara Groom (collectively known as A Major Production) to benefit St. Bernard’s High

School. The second O&A was held at Woodley Island and successfully raised sufficient

funds to provide free Wi-fi at the Humboldt County Library.

Last year’s proceeds benefited The Humboldt Botanical Gardens Foundation. The event

featured “celebrity tapsters” including the entire Humboldt County Board of Supervisors,

and other local luminary servers, and oyster shuckers. They served the entire line of Lost

Coast Beers, including special festival beer, wine, locally harvested oysters and organic

sausages. An auction was conducted by the inimitable Rex Bohn, and attendees danced to

the music of NightHawk. It attracted a crowd of over 800 to Woodley Island.

This year’s event will feature more barbeques and will again take place under the big tent

at Woodly Island Marina on Saturday, September 12th 2009.

Non profits should submit an informal letter stating what their organization does and what

the funds will be used for (funds cannot be used for salary). Letters should be postmarked

by May 18th:
